An announcement about Change
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, which assumed editorial responsibility for Change magazine in July 2005 when the American Association for Higher Education closed its doors, will return those responsibilities to Heldref Publications at the end of December 2009. Heldref has been the publisher of Change since its founding in the early 1960s, and Carnegie’s intervention, which was scheduled to end in July 2008, was meant to ensure the continuation of a publication that is an essential resource for the educational community.

The original understanding was that Carnegie would provide financial support for the editorial costs associated with the magazine for three years, and that period has actually been extended. The magazine is solid both editorially and financially, and Heldref has established a dynamic new online presence. As in much of Carnegie’s work, the goal has been to nurture and support important ventures and then, when they are at their strongest, turn them over to others to continue the good work. This is true now of Change.
