Joseph Longbottom
Joseph Longbottom serves as strategist on the Future of Learning team at the Carnegie Foundation. In this role, Joseph identifies and elevates systems that are implementing innovative strategies and practices beyond the Carnegie Unit.
Before joining Carnegie, Joseph served in multiple systems-level leadership roles. As principal of Tollgate Elementary School of EL Education, Joseph leveraged deeper learning competencies to transform the Title I elementary school from the second-lowest state rating to the second highest rated school in the Aurora Public School District, according to state performance frameworks. As a Superintendent Fellow for Reading Public Schools, Joseph developed district-wide systems to improve the effectiveness of the METCO program, the oldest desegregation initiative in the country. As an Ambach Fellow for the Kentucky Department of Education, Joseph also worked alongside the State Commissioner and Chief Performance Officer to support the state department’s transformation efforts focused on competency-based education.
Joseph is passionate about designing education systems that empower every learner to push past what they once thought was possible. This requires learner-centered systems that believe in the potential of all students and are committed to continuous improvement. As a Harvard-certified Data Wise coach, Joseph enjoys coaching district teams and school leaders using his expertise in organizational learning. He is also completing his doctorate (Ed.L.D.) in education leadership at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
In his free time, Joseph loves adventuring with his family, songwriting on his guitar, and sipping a good cup of coffee while listening to records.
