How Fresno Unified School District Increased In-State Four-Year College Applications by 50 Percent Using Continuous Improvement Principles
July 20, 2017
The Fresno Unified School District noticed that although many students were eligible to apply to several colleges and universities in California, most applied to only one, and flagged this as an equity, access, and social justice issue. In response, they used the principles of improvement to identify reasons students didn’t apply to more colleges and then tested ideas to address them. The result of these new strategies was a 50 percent increase in the number of students applying to UC campuses and CSU campuses other than Fresno State — from 382 students to 578.
