Beginners in the Classroom: What the Changing Demographics of Teaching Mean for Schools, Students, and Society

The report explores the causes and consequences of what may be a permanent shift toward a less experienced profession. They leave for many reasons, the report says, but at the top of the list are concerns related to lack of support, such as limited professional development, little helpful feedback on performance that supports improvement, and feeling isolated from colleagues. The report examines some promising ways of addressing the problem, including intensive mentoring and residency programs.
